FAQ

Is my text sent to a server when using this PII masking tool?

No. Masking runs entirely in your browser. Your text is not uploaded or stored.

Can I use this before pasting into AI or other services?

Yes. It’s useful as a quick first-pass check before sharing logs, opening support tickets, or pasting into AI tools. Since detection isn’t perfect, always review the output.

What PII patterns can this tool detect?

Email addresses, phone-number-like digit strings, credit-card-like digit strings, My Number (Japan, 12 digits), and IPv4 addresses.

Can false positives or misses happen?

Yes. This tool uses pattern matching, so context can cause false positives (or formatting can cause misses). Before sharing, also check names, addresses, IDs/tokens, and URL query strings.

Can it automatically mask names and addresses?

No. Names and addresses vary widely and are easy to mis-detect, so they are not included in auto-detection. Replace them manually if needed (e.g., [NAME] / [ADDRESS]).

What kind of data can be masked?

It redacts common patterns such as email addresses and phone numbers. Since patterns can vary, always review the output.

How can I reduce misses and false positives?

A quick manual review after auto-redaction is the most reliable. Using a short checklist of “must-hide” items helps prevent misses.

Is my text stored?

No. Processing is designed to run in your browser; it is not meant for uploading and storing your text on a server.
