LinkOrganizer imports Netscape Bookmark HTML and supported LinkOrganizer JSON files. Import uses an exported file; it does not connect directly to another browser account for ongoing sync.
Which file should I prepare?
Export bookmarks from the source browser as HTML. Use an environment where Chrome, Brave, Safari, or your browser provides bookmark export. Availability and steps depend on the browser version and device. If you cannot find export on a phone, check whether the desktop version provides it.
Save the file somewhere accessible from Files on your iPhone or iPad. A saved web page or a browser’s internal database is not the same as a bookmark HTML export.
What are the import steps?
- Open Settings → Data, Sync & Support → Import.
- Choose automatic detection or the actual import format.
- Check the destination profile.
- Enable Create Folders if you want to retain the imported grouping.
- Select the file.
- Review the count, titles, URLs, and folders in the preview.
- Confirm Import and check the destination after completion.
Selecting a file does not finalize import. The preview displays up to the first 100 bookmarks; the total shown on the import action indicates the full selection.
Will folders, tags, and images all transfer?
Import focuses on titles, URLs, and folder information that can be read from the file. Create Folders uses the imported grouping to create folders.
Browser-specific tags, browsing history, passwords, and extension settings are not all transferred. Even with LinkOrganizer JSON, bookmark import and full backup restoration are separate. To restore app settings and profiles, use Restore from Backup.
Should I choose HTML or JSON?
- HTML: Use Netscape Bookmark HTML to move bookmarks between browsers.
- JSON: Use a supported LinkOrganizer export. Arbitrary JSON files are not supported.
- Encrypted file: A supported encrypted export requires its original password.
For a full backup created under Backup & Restore, use the corresponding Restore from Backup screen.
What if I cannot select or import the file?
- For cloud-stored files, check that the file can be downloaded to the device.
- Verify that it is a bookmark export, not a saved page or a file with a renamed extension.
- If automatic detection fails, choose its actual format.
- For encrypted exports, verify the original password.
- If the preview is empty, try exporting again from the original browser.
Check the destination before repeatedly confirming import. Automatic duplicate resolution is not guaranteed for every format and dataset.
Does importing delete the original browser’s bookmarks?
No. LinkOrganizer reads the selected file; this operation does not delete the source browser’s bookmarks. Keep the original collection and export file until you have checked the imported result.
